Pokemon yellow, a classic game for Gameboy Colour players everywhere. The third Pokemon game, or the fourth for many with Pokemon red and blue and for some parts of the world, green, coming before it.
This was one of my first games growing up as a child and like many people I knew it was a favourite.
So what made the yellow version so good? Well despite not having all 150 Pokemon like the previous versions, you are able to acquire all three starter Pokemon that appear in red, green and blue. Plus you had your own Pikachu follow you! Of course this had to be the better of the first games!
Pokemon yellow followed the cartoon series a little more than the previous versions such as the pokemon you choose and the people you battle. However past this, the difference between the different versions stops there. This is not a bad thing though. I owned versions red and yellow and both were great games, giving me hours and hours of entertainment.
The aim of the game is pretty simple; become the very best, like no one ever was, catching pokemon is the real test and to train them is the cause! You catch pokemon and train them, battle them against Pokemon trainers and become the best!
The things that made yellow version different, upon first encounter is colour! It was the first game in the series to have colour on screen and the background would chance colour depending on what town you are in. Next, as mentioned was that you could gain the started pokemon of the first games PLUS have Pikachu as a starter who follows you about! How cool! Finally, Team Rocket, the evil corporation wanting world domination! In the first games, you would encounter random Rocket villians, in Yellow, you meet Jessie, James and Meowth, just like in the TV series.
One of the hardest decisions to make is, do you keep all starter Pokemon in your team, or do you hunt out your favourites and have a team of your own?
With the latest versions of Pokemon, X and Y coming soon it is a fitting game to have as game of the week.
